1) the 1006 has a longer barrel and generates more velocity. With most 10mm ammo these days a 1076 is essentially like shooting a .40.

2) when you do shoot full power 10mm ammo, the bigger and heavier 1006 handles the recoil very well indeed.

3) even if you carry the 1006--it's been done--it's really not any more difficult than carrying a full-size, all-steel 1911.

4) if you are going to carry a Smith & Wesson automatic it pays to learn the Smith & Wesson manual of arms, which you'll learn on the 1006. The 1076 is a cobbled up attempt to emulate the SIG-style manual of arms without being a SIG in feel, thus one won't learn the S&W manual of arms nor will he truly get a feel for SIGs--which are the only family of pistols to operate the way they do.
