Malaya 1941

Photo From: MikeDavies - Album: Military Photos--People/Scenes

Description: A photo taken of HQ Company,Fort Canning, Kuala Lumpur, part of "Force Emu" that was sent from India to Malaya in 1941 for the defense of Malaya prior to the Japanese attack. That's my Dad, Sgt. Thomas J. Davies standing third row back, second on the left (as looking at the photo). The taller Captain sitting in the centre of the second row is Capt. Russel-Roberts, who wrote many books on the British Army in India, and his time as a POW with the Japanese. My Dad said he, along with Russel-Roberts and one other, were the only 3 British soldiers in the photo that survived the POW camps after the fall of Singapore. My Dad worked on the Burma Railway, including the infamous Bridge on the River Kwai. My Dad spoke very little of his time as a Japanese POW.
