Public shooting ranges at Atterbury Fish and Wildlife Area, Edinburgh,Ind., will remain closed through Saturday, Aug. 14. The ranges were expected to reopen to the public on July 31. Extremely hot and humid weather conditions have slowed work on the project causing officials at the property to push back the reopening. Atterbury staff are increasing the height of back and side berms on the ranges and installing structures designed to prevent bullets from ricocheting out of the range. The target ranges at Atterbury Fish and Wildlife Area are some of the most frequently used in the state. Target shooters looking for alternative ranges may consider using ranges at Crosley FWA in North Vernon, Ind., and Wilbur Wright FWA in New Castle, Ind.
