Ponca State Park will host the Sioux River Muzzleloaders^ annual Patrick Gass Black Powder Rendezvous, Oct. 1-3. The public is welcome to attend and encouraged to participate in the activities. Members of the Sioux River Muzzleloaders will set up their tipis and displays on Friday, Oct. 1, and the activities will officially begin on Saturday and continue through Sunday afternoon. There will be Muzzleloaders shooting competitions, tomahawk throwing competitions, a kids archery class, a Dutch oven cooking class, a buffalo stew cookout, a hayrack ride and evening bonfire are among the scheduled events. Ponca State Park superintendent Jeff Fields says it is an ideal time for a rendezvous because the fall color is peaking in the park and the hills are ablaze with yellow and orange foliage. A valid Nebraska Park Entry Permit is required for any vehicle entering the park. Day stickers are $2.50, an annual sticker is $14.
