Although it usually closes in mid-December, concessionaires at the shooting range say it may stay open until late in the month if the nice weather holds. Patrons of the range are advised to call ahead as closing dates have not been decided but will be soon. The Olofson range offers opportunities for enthusiasts to shoot rifles, handguns, bows, blackpowder firearms and shotguns with slugs. Electronically activated trap and skeet ranges are also available says Sonny Satre recreational safety coordinator for the DNR. The Olofson range features two 50-yard and one 100-yard bench rest rifle and pistol range. There are 10 shooting points on each range and targets may be shot at 15, 25, 50 and 100 yards. The range is open Wednesdays through Sundays. Shooting hours with a pistol, rifle, shotgun shooting slug and bow and arrow are 10 a.m. to one-half hour before sunset. Trap and skeet ranges are open from noon to 8 p.m. Range hours are subject to change and shooters are advised to call the concessionaire at 515-277-2523 or 515-795-3577.
