Olympic Shooters Shine in 2001 USA Shooting's national shooting team and national development shooting team continued to shine at the International Competition in Air Rifle, Air Pistol and Running Target being held this week in Munich, Germany. Emily Caruso (Fairfield, Conn.) continued her silver streak in women's air rifle with the silver medal, solidifying her position as a world-class shooter. She nailed two silvers last year, at the 2000 Atlanta World Cup and the 2000 World Cup Final, and she shows no signs of slowing down in 2001. Caruso trains at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Matt Rawlings (Wharton, Texas), a member of the national development rifle team, grabbed the attention of the shooting world with his score of 592 to claim the junior gold medal in air rifle. (Though the score beats the previously held junior world record, it will not qualify as a world record because such records cannot be set at the International Competition.) Daryl Szarenski (Saginaw, Mich.), a 2000 Olympian in 50m free pistol, made it into the air pistol final at the International Competition, finishing in 5th place.
