Hornady® is pleased to announce that Team Hornady member, and long time employee, John Potratz won the 2010 Iowa State 1000 yard bench rest championship held in Pella, Iowa on June 19, 2010.  Competing in a field of over 20 competitors and a course of fire that entailed two, five shot targets with the light guns (17 lbs or less) and two, ten shot groups with the heavy guns (unlimited class).  Each target was measured for group size and counted for score.  Near perfect weather conditions helped, but John delivered small groups with high scores to win the 2 gun overall championship.

John was shooting Hornady®
30 caliber 208 gr A-MAX® bullets in his heavy gun, chambered in 30-375 Ruger,  and Hornady® 7mm 162 gr. A-MAX® bullets in a 280 Remington Improved cartridge. The Light Gun targets measured an impressive 4.915” / 47 (pictured below) followed by a 6.374” / 45. John’s first Heavy Gun target measured 8.225” / 93 and was followed up with a 7.119” / 95. (pictured below). Keep in mind, these groups were shot at well over half a mile.  These small, consistent, & well placed groups put John at the top of a very competitive cadre of shooters.  John said, “Over the past couple years we’ve put a lot of work into our match bullets, being able to use the bullets that we make to win a competition like this is a great feeling.”
