It was much better attended than I expected. I thought that perhaps with some of the negative publicity NRA has received in recent years that attendance might be down, but that wasn't the case. We went on Friday evening, got to our hotel, and were at the show all day Saturday and most of Sunday. Really huge crowds the whole time. I got a couple of snapshots I'll post later.
We didn't attend any seminars. I only saw a couple I was interested in but nothing appealed to Eric so we just walked around the show (I am so sore!). We wandered Sat, then Sat night we looked over the map specifically to find "booths," and I use that word loosely as some of the displays were huge, two story affairs, in order not to miss some companies we were most interested in. The convention center floor covers 14 acres, so it's easy to miss things! The center has a couple of cafe areas with tables. We ate at one twice. Two hot dogs, $10. Another time two slices of pizza, two drinks, $25. Food was adequate. Let's see. It seems almost everyone was there, large companies and small--except Smith & Wesson, who was conspicuous by their absence. Some companies had monsterous displays--Springfield, SIG. Some company displays seemed smaller than they might have been. Hornady had a small display, for example. H&K didn't even have everything they make on display. For the most part we got to handle and even dry fire almost anything at all that interested us though. Collected a ton of literature as well, as you might expect. For my part, I got to handle several interesting guns I had never see in person, looking mostly at target pistols. Eric was concentrating on some of the brand new releases, and looked at more rifles than I did. On Sat I did see Ken Hackathorn and Bill Wilson sitting quietly behind the Wilson Combat tables while their minions handled customers, but didn't want to bother them, so I didn't say hello. I probably should have. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: So what were your impressions of the meeting as a whole? Did you just roam the display areas or sit in on some presentations? Speeches? Meals? Enquiring minds, you know. Stu |
