I will readily admit the round handguards are more ergonomic than the triangular handguards, but the triangular ones are more nostalgic for me. When I was in the Air Force we didn't even have the A1, I carried an M16 my entire enlistment. The AF went directly from the M16 to the A2 in the the early to mid-80s. If I were ever to want an M16, I'd probably go with an M16 style, A1 at most, for that reason. Though even the forward assist on the A1 would be foreign to me...![]() |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: When my friend and I were building ARs for sale at gun shows, we always put together a few with the triangular hand guards and 20" barrels. It just was reminiscent of Vietnam, and I guess some of the vets related to that configuration. Personally, I didn't care for the triangular hand guards, but YMMV. Harvey |
