I hunt Grouse in PA, up on the "Northern Tier".  When I'm lucky enough to flush one I have, at most, a second to get the gun up and on the bird before he's long gone, trying to use a dot sight would be impossible, ask any Grouse hunter.

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I didn't realize they were popular on shotguns.  Because of the way a shotgun is aimed--pointed really--I would think using a dot on one would be difficult.
