Ruger Firearms and Hornady have jointly announced the production of an exciting new hunting revolver. The caliber is .480 Ruger, being the first cartridge to bear that illustrious manufacturer^s name. The round is being produced by Hornady in reconfigured .475 Linebaugh brass. It will be, at least initially, a 325 gr. XTP/Mag bullet exiting the barrel at 1,350 f.p.s. The muzzle energy is about fifty percent greater than that of a full capacity .44 Magnum. Hornady states that by keeping chamber pressures down, the perceived recoil is considerably less than the other giant handgun loads like the .454 Casull. Handloaders ought to love this load, too as the lower chamber pressure subjects the brass to less stress enabling reloaders to use the cases over and over. The new gun and ammunition will both debut later this week at the S.H.O.T. Show 2001 in New Orleans. Sources: Hornady and Am. Handgunner Magazine.
