I found another M1 with mostly original parts, a more realistic appearing stock, and a receiver/barrel combo from the same company made a year apart. And the erosion numbers were very good. A much better option for me than the one I posted. I realize that most people are apparently going to go for the rifle I posted, but I'm done looking at it.
FWIW, I do appreciate Criterion barrels, and might put one on my Blue Sky M1 Carbine some day, so I'm not disrespecting that. But the more I look at the stock on this one the more it looks like a farmer in a tuxedo mucking out the horse barn. Something for others who want to ooh and ahh, but not me. Garands didn't go to war looking like that. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: The restored aspect isn't doing much for me, though it seems to thrill others. The best part of a restored M1 like this one is that a new barrel (Criterion, IIRC) has been installed. There are a lot of surplus M1s out there with considerable barrel erosion and wear that won't make a serious shooter smile. The upgraded furniture is a bonus to some, and unimportant to others who want to shoot their M1s with some frequency. Someone who wants a cherry original M1 and is willing to pay the required bucks for it is likely a collector rather than a shooter. Harvey |
