Further to my last message, I did receive a reply from the seller in answer to my question about the pistol being stock or customized -- "As far as I know it is stock. I don't believe the grips are stock and unknown if the bo-mar sight came from the factory. The owner did not have any work done to it and it was given to him in this condition."
I'm guessing "the owner" is the consignor who posted the Colt for sale. Harvey |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Hi Stu, I think this is your gun on Gun Broker? I see a couple of negatives to the ad. First, the seller says, "It says stainless on the slide" ? Maybe I don't pay much attention to Colt slides but I don't recall ever seeing "stainless" on a slide. I also don't see it on this slide, am I missing it? The slide in the pictures is obviously blued and he makes things worse by saying they don't know whether the gun has been refinished or not. Possibly worse yet, he never mentions that the gun was customized by a knowledgeable gunsmith which is what makes it worth more than just a stock Model 70 Government Model to a casual shopper. That is a neat looking old GM with some golden loving touches like the extinct Bo-Mar rear sight, the aluminum trigger with overtravel stop, the well-done beavertail grip safety and those distinctive custom grip panels. |
