| in my town you can get a new mossberg, plain jain, 18 1/2 pump for $300 or less new, its a great deal. others are in that range used. you can get a maverick pump cheaper, but I would consider those. I used to be able to find used pump guns out the wazzooo, they just arent around much anymore down here. it might be because the gun stores cant give enough in trade or purchase to make it worthwhile, dunno | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: this is probably a theoretical argument anyways as this only applies if the gun can be had for $300 or less, as I cant see a beginner entering the defensive shotgun market with $600. if you need a first time shotgun and have $300 or whatever, there really is only one choice. I may have a skewed view on this point because where a person lives probably changes how much guns cost. But, I can buy a really nice used Mossberg/Remington/Benelli pump gun for the same money I'd have to spend to buy a new or used short side by side double. Maybe the "coach guns" are priced higher here because of the popularity of cowboy shooting, but they are not cheaper than the pumps. |
