Its a really interesting concept gun, but I wonder if it only going to be a concept gun. Of course I'm no way qualified to give more than an uneducated opinion, so take it for what it's worth and no more. I can't see the U.S. or any other major military adopting the .30-06 (again). And while the modern 7.62x51 is as good as the old 30-06, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that a modern .30-06 benefits as much from modern ammunition technology as did the 7.62, so that makes it a longer range round today by default. But are we willing to replace the 7.62 and the M240b? I highly doubt it. And since the rifle is a SAW by design, or will be if they make it in full auto, it isn't in competition with the .300 Win Mag sniper rifles.
As far as a rifle for law enforcement, I can't see it being affordable or necessary given other options out there, primarily in 7.62, based on the assumed mission. I think that ends that discussion. Finally, private citizen interest. That's probably out there, and they may sell a number of them (in semi-auto) to private citizens. It will be a different consumer than their usual as they have developed a following that is primarily interested in military and pseudo-military collectibles, their bread & butter. I personally am not interested, but I'm mostly past working up much enthusiasm for most modern "tactical" weapons. I've just reached that point. If they market it right they might sell way more than I can imagine. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I just discovered this today, and thought I would share it. I'm not sure if anyone else is familiar with it, but aside from the terrible "baby poop" brown that its in, I think it is rather awesome. I'd still rather have one of their 1918A3 rifles for awesome factor, but the HCAR makes a lot of sense if it were marketed as a modern DMR. Here is a nice review article with details, pictures, and a short video. Coverage from Shot Show 2014 suggest an MSRP around $3600. Pricey, but what isn't these days.
