To me personally, using the name "Sharps" for anything to do with the AR15 is practically heretic. What the heck inspired that decision I'd love to know. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Perhaps the attraction of other cartridges is so that one can use a familiar rifle platform? For the past 50 or so years our military has been using some version of the AR design so lots of veterans and wannabes are familiar with and like the platform. Here in Virginia a rifle used for deer hunting must be chambered in a caliber .23 or above. That law appears to be intended specifically to exclude the .22 caliber rounds. Anyone wanting to use an AR for deer either needs an AR-10-type rifle or one of the alternative chamberings which fit into the standard AR. I've had a soft spot for the .25 calibers for a very long time. I guess that I grew up reading tales of the .257 Roberts and like cartridges. I've got lots of .25 caliber bullets for reloading and .223 brass is plentiful and inexpensive. It would be easy for me to get into loading for the .25-45 Sharps. Sharps Rifle Company currently has a sale on barrels chambered for .25-45 Sharps. Since all other components of the rifle are common, one could convert a current AR to this chambering for right at $200.00 |
