I think this is a personal thing, definitely. After it being the biggest thing in my life, I think I've gotten a bit tired of military bolt action rifles. I've been collecting, shooting, and reloading for them for around forty years, but I think my interest has waned. I still like the many rifles in my collection, but I find I am no longer looking for additional rifles these days, including the ones I thought I still wanted to add. The last one I purchased was a never-issued Royal Air Force Lee-Enfield No.4Mk.2 that was built the year I was born. I couldn't't resist that one because of the build date, and also because I've always like those rifles and being essentially new made it very desirable. But that was a couple of years ago, and nothing had called my name since.
Regarding your comment on scout rifles--I know you've grown more and more put off by the concept for actually quite some time now, and have poo-poo'ed them a number of time of late. And it seems that every time someone well known writes about them in a magazine or online it seems to annoy you more and more. You are not alone here on the forum. Others have expressed their dislike of scout rifles as well. But I want to say I think this is also a personal thing. I like the scout rifle concept and I own a couple rifles with forward mounted scout scopes. One is a bolt rifle and one is semi-automatic. I don't see myself getting rid of either one anytime soon. For what it's worth, eh? |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Have you ever reached the point where you tore of a concept or a genre? For me, I might have reached that point with the Scout Rifle concept. I find that it has more or less become obsolete as a general purpose rifle has taken it's place and I think this new Ruger SFAR which comes in under 7 pounds as a semi auto rifle might just do it. Has anyone else "moved on"? I am tempted to sell off the 6.5 Grendel rifle and associated ammo. Open to ideas. |
