I found it difficult to keep in practice with 1911s when I was shooting other quite different stuff,
That was why I started shooting just one pistol at a time. Especially DA/SA, I didn’t notice it too much when I was shooting all the time but if you don’t shoot it regularly, it can be hard to transition from double to single action. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I moved on from DA/SA autos. Used to think they were the way to go (for me). Now, It's striker fired plastic. That's how most handgunners have gone. 20-plus years ago I moved from 1911s to DA/SA SIGs to striker-fired plastic Glocks, but after several years decided Glocks were not for me. I decided there was no reason to continue with Glocks just because the whole world was using them. A good part of that was my natural tendency to want to be a rebel and buck the trend--for good or bad. But another reason for it was because I had never, through all this, given up 1911s entirely and had always kept my hand in. Well, I still took 1911s to the range regularly, and I found it difficult to keep in practice with 1911s when I was shooting other quite different stuff, and putting so many rounds downrange with that other stuff because I was actually carrying it. So I went back to 1911s, got rid of all but one of my Glocks, all my SIGs, and returned to being a 1911 guy. I don't have any traditional SIGs anymore, though I did get the M17, more as a collectible. And I got really into DA/SA S&W third generation pistols, also as collectibles and fun guns. And that one Glock I mentioned is also just a very occasional fun gun at the range--though I bet it has been 2-3 years since I had it out. Since this photo was uploaded I also swapped out the .40S&W barrel for a Lone Wolf 9mm barrel. I really like the Gen 2 frame without fingergrooves: Image below from Mark Freburg - Image Title: Glock 22 ![]() |
