Section 19: Hunting & Fishing Subject: Deer Camp 2023 Msg# 1195809

Eleven guys in camp, ONE deer and a doe at that! Most of the guys were out before first light and stayed out until last light. We have tons of deer on our trail cameras but now that the season started they are all nighttime shots. I saw 3 doe on opening day (I don't hunt or shoot doe) and that was it for the week, all I saw the next six days was one squirrel and a small, white moth!
The problem isn't a lack of game, it's a lack of hunters! Back when it was normal to see a dozen guys or more every day, I saw exactly ONE other hunter ALL WEEK! We're hunting two game lands that connect and, total almost 50,000 acres so if there aren't any hunters to keep the deer moving they get deep in the pines and stay there until all the big "Pumpkins" leave. In spite of a lack of deer we had a great camp and, everybody went home happy and well fed! |
