Question, which 9MM auto do you consider best, this or the Hi Power?
PMFJI: Kinda like being asked "which is your favorite child?" The Hi-Power was an evolutionary single action pistol that began production in 1935, and featured a large capacity (13-rd) magazine. Forty years and a World War later, the CZ75 began production "behind the Iron Curtain". It too was evolutionary, featuring a Double Action/Single Action system and a high capacity magazine. Both pistols saw military use, although the H-P was likely used by far more militaries. The H-P had some issues in the "hammer bite" and heavy trigger pull, but was very reliable and accurate. The CZ75 came with a larger beaver tail on the frame to minimize hammer bite, had a reasonably good trigger pull in both DA/SA actions, and like the Sig P210 (and French Petter design), the slide ran inside the frame, providing a lower bore axis and reducing muzzle flip. One pistol has 90 years of experience, while the other only has 50 years of experience. Both are still around, and both have strong followings, even though both appear as dinosaurs to many of the young polymer liking shooters of today. Both pistols are similar in size and weight, and both have had numerous clones developed by others. From a personal view, I've had multiples of both over the years, but presently own (Allan and mine) just a 1973 Browning H-P, and a modern take on the CZ (Model P09). I know you're an H-P fan, but have you ever owned or shot a CZ75? Harvey |
