For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: All kidding aside now--which I was doing the last couple notes--as long as the gun is in good mechanical shape the lack of finish wouldn't matter to me. I'd reblue it and be happy that it looked like new again. It's like seeing a Model T Ford that someone has repainted in orange metalflake. Yes, it will appeal to someone (maybe  ), but not me! And it's not like you are going to chop and channel it first, it is going to be box stock except for that weird aftermarket finish. After you sell it or croak, whichever comes first, the next owner is going to take it to his gunsmith and ask him how in the heck to get this goofy finish of this otherwise excellent example of early Colt technology so he can properly reblue it.

The pistol is in excellent mechanical shape. The action is tight and snappy, no rattling of anything in the pistol, I had a smith check it out and he was impressed with the overall mechanical shape. The goofy finish idea is ok with me for this one since there is no real collector's value associated with it. I am also looking into re-bluing it as well, so hope is not lost yet.
