![]() ![]() Section 16: Gun Work Subject: Birdsong Black-T finish Msg# 469301

Birdsong Black-T has a very good reputation indeed. But as always, let me be the voice of dissent. Teflon is absolutely rust-proof, and it looks great. It will scratch, however, and when it does, rust can get in and under the finish. What I would respectfully suggest is first to ask yourself what sort of look you are interested in--military, hi-tech, whatever. Once you have an idea of the color, gloss vs matte, and texture, then you can analyze the best finishes to meet your desires. Black-T will be expensive, and if you are going to spend a lot of money, I'd probably suggest some other options. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Does anyone know anything about a Walter Birdsong and his Teflon finishes? I have a 1927 Model Sistema (Colt 1911A1 Clone) that has no finish left and I have heard good things about his finish. I heard about it at work of all places (I am a Navy Contractor) where his work has been used for non-lubricated finishes for submarine parts. It turns out he does some gun finishes on the side and I was wondering what anybody's experience with it was, and how much it might cost. Thanks!
