$250 for Dura-Coat is a complete rip-off. Maybe $80 would be reasonable. It is a simple, spray-on and bake process, for heaven's sake! Well, based on your reply, it sounds like you are convinced to go with the Birdsong finish and are just looking for affirmation of your plan. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I am starting to notice his reputation. It was a very pleasant conversation, and he explained the process to me which I am still wrapping my head around. It involves partial infusion of the metal (chemically fused)?. It's essentially coating everything in the gun with his finish, minus the inside of the bore. He stated that he has 5,000 1911 pistols for the FBI that he's working on now (I guess for multi-year contract deliveries, that's a lot of guns for a 13,000 person agency right away). I think a nice matte black finish would be perfect. He also does NATO Green and is working on a Tan finish. Prices didn't seem too bad (of course, I have nothing for comparison other than a local shop charging $250.00 for Dura-Coating a firearm). He charges 160 bucks for a handgun + 20 bucks shipping and handling. He charges 180 bucks for a rifle (simple bolt action model) +20 bucks shipping and handling. The more I hear about this guy's work, the more I am tempted to ship that 1927 Sistema Colt Clone off to him and see what he can do. TJ |
