Oh, I dunno--money is good, too.  I've never owned an early M1903, but I do have a 1903A3, and those came with nice peep sights--if a guy wanted to hunt with one they would work pretty darn well as is, I think.
So I'm guessing your hunting rifles these days are commercial...? |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: For many, many years my hunting rifles were '03 high number Springfields, one even had a star gauge barrel. I had one set up with a 3-9 40MM scope, the barrel was cut to 22 inches, the other kept the 24 inch barrel and was set up with a Lyman peep sight. The stocks were Walnut with, if I remember correctly, Pachmyer? recoil pads. They were both built by Irv Joffe, a great 'smith here in the Philly area for years. I had them out to the range one fine day before deer season and a guy with a LOT of money made me a crazy, high offer, like the idiot I am I sold them....stupid, stupid, stupid! |
