I think it's a good idea. Surplus eventually dries up and I've often wondered how much longer the CMP can keep up providing surplus rifles. Based on availability, I'd say not much longer.  Also, the new rifles, while expensive are in the same neighborhood as top tier M1A rifles. I'm tempted to get one chambered in .308.

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: The CMP has partnered with Heritage Arms to produce new M1 rifles. These will be sold as commercial rifles rather than surplus rifles. Even though there is still a supply of surplus M1s, CMP feels the need to produce new ones. Is this a good idea? Here's the write up. Harvey
