For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I am between and betwixt on this. I agree with you that when the supply of surplus is gone, so be it. Spoken as a former firearms collector. The reason(s) for buying surplus M1 rifles, IMO, is collectibility, nostalgia by older ex-servicemen who humped that rifle, reenacting, and to a lesser degree, 3-gun or CMP-style matches. Otherwise, what's the use for a new, big, heavy, high powered, 8-round clip fed rifle -- Hunting? Home defense? Wall hanging? I know there are people who buy replica firearms, and maybe that's a bigger market than I'm aware of. ![]() Thirty or so years ago, when I was involved in long distance high power shooting, I might have been interested in a brand new M1 vs a used, surplus one, especially if the prices were similar.
