don't see why the Glock mags couldn't be steel Well, the outer tubes of Glock mags are plastic because the mag release mechanism is plastic. If the tubes were steel, they'd soon render the mag release on the pistol inoperative. Now, the $64,000 question is: Why is the Glock mag release plastic? I'll bet Jerry (otherwise known as the man in the white hat) knows!!! |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Which of these pistols is the better fit in your hands? Do they both provide a good trigger reach? Do you find them comfortable? I don't own an XD but I like a couple features--the steel magazine bodies and the unobtrusive grip safety. Glock mags seem to work fine, but I don't love the plastic body and don't see why the Glock mags couldn't be steel, thus slimming the grip frame somewhat. For the Glock there is the fact that it is a well-established brand that is not likely to go away. Spfld has a history of taking on foreign-made guns and branding them, but then dropping them eventually. May not happen with the XD, but it is something to consider. I also have to agree with Bob R. that the Glock has vastly superior sights from the factory. Self-defense is quick and crude and the Glock sights are better for that kind of shooting. I don't own an XD but since getting my Glock 23 I have much less interest in doing so. For what it's worth.... |
